Professional users are aware of the advantages of solid-state technology in respect of the magnetron one, on the other hand, they are also aware of some limitations such as the ineffective RACON/SART triggering and the higher purchase price. STRAITGARD family hybrid radar systems merge solid-state and magnetron technologies in order to provide the best performance ever, while representing a high value for money, allowing three modes of operations: Solid-State only, Magnetron only, or Combined Frequency Diversity.
Extremely easy to install and set up, STRAITGARD family feature a Plug&Play concept, a distinguishing mark of ICS’s radar systems that allow any technician to carry out a smooth installation by following a few and simple steps and without having been previously trained for it.
The radar family offers a wealth of configurations, including a down mast configuration with a separate transmitter suitable to be matched with any third-party antenna, new or existing ones in retrofit programs, making STRAITGARD the perfect choice for a variety of scenarios.
KEY STRENGHTS
STRAITGARD is the world’s first up-mast redundant radar with technology’s flexibility that assures the best possible detection capability in any weather condition.
Among the other characteristics, key strengths to be highlighted are:
- Native SNMP
- DDS ready with embedded Linux O.S. for Navy applications
- Effective SART / RACON Triggering
- Solid State Power Management
- Best reliability with cost effective embedded redundancy on any configuration
- Reduced footprint
- Ease and quick to install with ICS’s Plug&Play concept, zeroing any possible installation mistake
- Unbeatable reliability and reduced maintenance (no transmission belt, magnetic encoder, …);
- Designed as a lower replaceable unit in order to make repair easy and quick
- Availability > 99.99%
- Full self-diagnosis (BITE)
- High-end radar arrays
MAIN FEATURES
BEST DETECTION CAPABILITY IN ANY WEATHER CONDITION, AT ANY RANGE, DESPITE THE TARGET DIMENSION (Down to <1m²)
Short-range detection depends on transmitted pulses with a typical duration of 50ns. This kind of pulses, within the solid-state technology, deliver a meager compression gain resulting in weak radar echoes. Doppler elaboration provides little information due to the low velocity of the naval scenario.
On the other hand, in the short-range, hybrid configuration gets stronger radar echoes (at least +20dB) through the integration of magnetron channel, allowing an effective detection.
Combination of solid-state and magnetron provides the best radar picture ever, taking advantages of high power echoes and pulse compression gain simultaneously.
EFFECTIVE SART / RACON TRIGGERING
In this regard, the Hybrid transceiver is a step ahead of Solid-State. It effectively triggers RACON and SART miles away while keep on updating the radar echoes.
SART devices, which have been designed to be triggered by Magnetron radars, remain indifferent to Solid-state transceivers unless in close proximity. In order to detect SART / RACON, the common method used on the solid-state radars is to switch to a special mode of operation (i.e. “SART Detection”), which, on the other hand, disables the function of radar display and detection.
Hence, by selecting the specific mode of operation “SART Detection”, the operator has poor SART detection and renounce to update the radar echoes.
The hybrid XRAD-STRAITGARD provides the best radar picture while triggering SART/RACON.
REDUCED FOOTPRINT SIMPLIFIES THE INFRASTRUCTURE PREPARATION AND THE MECHANICAL INSTALLATION
The XRAD-STRAITGARD maintains the same footprint of non-hybrid versions for VTS and Navigation. Its reduced footprint simplifies civil works to be carried out for site preparation
WIDER OPERATIVE TEMPERATURE RANGE
Extended range of operation, down to -50°C or up to +60°C can be selected as option on any version
PLUG&PLAY TO INSTALL
Once the radar is mechanically fixed, just plug the provided cables and switch on the system to operateInstallation activities takes few hours and local technicians can carry out operations without any specific training at factory.
ICS radars are shipped all-over the world. Simplifying the system in order to eliminate the dependency from certified field engineers makes the XRAD-STRAITGARD convenient and prompt to be used.
Furtherly, new radar control panel includes a wizard for setting up and, in addition, the remote ICS’s service support remains at customer disposal for smooth and best Setting to Work.
RADAR DESIGN HAS IN MIND THE EASE OF MAINTENANCE
The traditional ICS’s ease-of-maintenance concept has been enhanced by arranging the sub-assemblies as LRI.
In this sense, the XRAD-STRAIGARD furtherly improves the design of VTS radar family XRAD-OCEANGARD and Navigation radar family XRAD-STRAITMASTER
CONFIGURATIONS
STRAITGARD offers a wealth of possible configurations; according to the final scope of use, STRAITGARD can be offered with arrays from 6 feet to 21 feet, and power amplifier 100W-200W and 400W. Small size arrays from 6 to 12 feet are fitted on a reduced footprint, lightweight scanner unit. Arrays 18 and 21 feet are fitted on a reliable 3-phases motor scanner unit, driven by a dedicated Antenna Supply Unit which allows several rotations per minute settings.
